What is a BSL/English Interpreter?

A BSL interpreter is a professional who facilitates communication between Deaf individuals who use British Sign Language (BSL) and people who use spoken English. Their role involves interpreting spoken language into BSL and vice versa, enabling effective communication in various settings such as meetings, medical appointments, educational environments, legal proceedings, and more. All freelance interpreters are NRCPD or RBSLI registered.

These registrations ensure that interpreters meet strict professional standards, including qualifications, ethics, and continuous professional development. Being registered with NRCPD or RBSLI guarantees that the interpreters we use adhere to recognised codes of conduct, ensuring quality, confidentiality, and accountability in their work. This provides clients with confidence that they are working with trained, certified professionals who are competent in both British Sign Language (BSL) and interpreting practices.

What is a Communication Support Worker?

A Communication Support Worker (CSW) supports Deaf people by facilitating communication through their preferred methods such as sign language, lip reading, and note-taking, ensuring they can fully participate in educational or work environments.

What is a notetaker?

A notetaker is a person who provides written summaries or detailed notes during meetings, lectures, or events to assist Deaf people. These notes help ensure the person has access to the information.
